Ty Garrett Segall was born in Laguna Beach in 1987 and is a singer, songwriter, record producer, and multi instrumentalist (guitar, drums, bass guitar, and keyboards). His musical style is best described as a blend of indie rock (a genre of alternative rock that originated in the United States and the United Kingdom in the 1980s, encapsulating the genres chamber pop, indie pop, lo fi, math rock, neo psychedelia, post punk revival, sadcore, and shoegaze), garage rock (a raw and energetic style of rock and roll deriving from the perception that groups were often made up of young amateurs who rehearsed in the family garage, although many were professional), and lo fi (a genre which grew primarily from American underground music scenes in the early 1980s and is associated with artists such as Sebadoh, Pavement, Liz Phair, and Beck). He cites David Bowie, Marc Bolan, Black Sabbath, Kiss, The Stooges, and Black Flag as his main influences. He's had a stellar career with 9 studio albums, 1 live album, 3 compilation albums, 16 music videos, 3 extended plays, and 19 singles. He performs with a backing band (The Freedom Band) consisting of Mikal Cronin (bass), Charles Moothart (drums), Emmett Kelly (guitar), and Ben Boye (piano).
