The Strumbellas, Canada’s sensational pop, folk, indie rock, and alternative country artists are bringing their signature sounds to the Summit Music Hall!
The band was formed in Toronto in 2008 by bass guitarist Darryl James, drummer Jeremy Drury, singer-songwriter and guitarist Simon Ward, and lead guitarist Jon Hembrey. They posted an ad for additional musicians on Craig’s list and recruited vocalist and keyboardist David Ritter and violinist Isabel Ritchie to complete the line up. Their musical style is a blend of folk, pop, alternative country, and indie rock that they like to call “folk popgrass”. Their music draws parallels with that of renowned folk rock acts Lumineers and Mumford and Sons and they released their eponymous debut extended play in 2009. It was well received by the media and its success lead to a series of performances at high profile venues and events like Yonge-Dundas Square, the Horseshoe Tavern, and the Peterborough Folk Festival. They released their debut studio album (My Father and the Hunter) in 2012 and it was nominated for a Juno Award in the Roots and Traditional Album of the Year – Group category. Their follow up album (We Still Move on Dance Floors) came out in 2013 and won a Juno Award in the aforementioned category. Their latest album (Hope) came out in April 2016.
Don’t miss your chance to see these artists generate a spirited blend of folk, pop, alt country, and indie rock!
